SM Prime expands cultural, tourism offerings at MOA

SM Prime Holdings Inc. is enhancing cultural and tourism offerings at the SM Mall of Asia Complex with the opening of Museo del Galeón, the first experiential maritime museum in the Philippines. Spanning four levels over 9,000 square meters, the museum showcases a full-scale replica of the 17th-century Galeón Espíritu Santo, constructed from fiberglass by local artisans.

This immersive venue employs storytelling, interactive exhibits, and live programming to illuminate the nation's maritime history and its significance in the Manila-Acapulco Galleon Trade.

Situated within the MOA Complex in Pasay, the museum's accessibility has broadened its appeal to a diverse range of visitors. Since its May 2023 opening, Museo del Galeón has attracted thousands of guests, hosting private tours, workshops, talks, and after-hours experiences. Corporate support has been robust, with businesses contributing to the museum's mission of sharing Philippine maritime history.

Companies can sponsor one of the museum's permanent installations of 181 floating galleons, receiving name recognition and contributing to the cultural and educational mission.

SM Prime's operations director, Chiqui Batac, emphasized the potential for private sector involvement beyond sponsorship, highlighting Museo del Galeón as a partner in heritage preservation and audience expansion. The museum aims to offer diverse engagement opportunities, including after-hours programs, expert-led talks, youth workshops, and brand collaborations.

Batac stated that SM Prime is committed to evolving the visitor experience, ensuring that each return visit provides fresh discoveries while fostering ongoing public engagement with the museum.
