SK Enmove, LG Electronics team up for immersion cooling technology

SK Enmove, a lubricant subsidiary of SK On, has joined forces with LG Electronics to pioneer next-generation refrigerants, lubricants, and immersion cooling technologies suitable for a wide array of industries. On the same day their collaboration was announced, SK Enmove's CEO, Kim Wone-kee, and LG Electronics' Eco Solution Division President, Lee Jae-sung, inked a memorandum of understanding.

Their shared objective is to create innovative refrigerants, refrigeration lubricants, and immersion cooling technologies tailored for home appliances and commercial and industrial uses.

The partnership aims to address the growing need for environmentally friendly solutions as global regulations become increasingly stringent. The new refrigerants will be developed to comply with international environmental standards, boasting a global warming potential well below 150 and containing no per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, which have been found to pose environmental and health risks.

SK Enmove will lead the development of potential refrigerants, leveraging its expertise in lubricants, while LG Electronics will evaluate their practicality in real-world applications. Leveraging its extensive experience in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) products and systems across global markets, LG Electronics will provide valuable insights into the commercial viability of the technologies.
