Should the Raiders consider trading QB Aidan O'Connell to the Giants?

Throughout the offseason, speculation circulated that the Las Vegas Raiders might seek to trade their quarterback, Aidan O Connell. The reasoning behind this was clear; O Connell had been relegated to the role of third-string quarterback following the additions of Kirk Cousins and the top draft pick Fernando Mendoza. Despite an opportunity arising during training camp and the preseason, O Connell failed to seize it, leading the Raiders to retain him on the 53-man roster as their third quarterback.

However, a potential new avenue for O Connell's trade may present itself now. On Monday Night Football, in Week 2, the New York Giants lost their starting quarterback, Jaxson Dart, due to a potentially season-ending knee injury. Initially, Jameis Winston was inserted as a replacement but quickly faltered, throwing a critical interception and completing less than half of his passing attempts. Given the Giants' season trajectory, it seems unlikely that Winston would be their new quarterback.

In such a scenario, O Connell would be a logical upgrade for the Giants. The Raiders' 2023 fourth-round draft pick is currently in the midst of a contract year, implying he would likely welcome the chance to start elsewhere before entering free agency next season. Moreover, the Giants, who had defeated the Dallas Cowboys in Week 1, appeared to be potential playoff contenders until Dart's injury.

Trading O Connell to the Giants could be a strategic move for both teams, potentially salvaging a season for the Giants and providing the Raiders with a promising backup option.
