Seth Meyers Thinks Press Boycott of White House Events ‘Accidentally Cracked the Code’ on Covering Trump

President Donald Trump's speech at a White House ribbon cutting ceremony in recent days was devoid of any audio, thanks to a press pool boycott. This boycott followed President Trump's exclusion of CNN, Politico, and MS NOW from the White House. In response, the rest of the press pool collectively decided not to cover the president, resulting in reporters not being present or having their microphones active.

NBC host Seth Meyers made light of the situation during his monologue, mocking Trump for failing to anticipate this outcome. Meyers quipped, "Yeah, apparently he forgot the press pool is also who brings the microphones. If you're going to ban news organizations from the White House, you really need to learn how to project." Despite the boycott, Meyers believes this event may have "accidentally cracked the code" on covering the president.

He suggested that rather than relying on audio, journalists should focus on visual cues. "We don't need to hear what he’s saying. He’s either bragging or lying. Let's just lose the sound," Meyers suggested. "Basically, use the media as a baby monitor. We can see where he is and whether he’s awake, without hearing all the crying.

You know, then if something goes down, we'll pause the movie and go check on him." During his "A Closer Look" segment, Meyers also joked that the white noise of the helicopter, accompanying the ribbon cutting for a new helipad, is similar to what Trump's speeches sound like.
