Ruben Amorim sacking pay-off revealed as Man Utd publish latest financial results

Manchester United disclosed the substantial severance payment they were compelled to provide Ruben Amorim upon his dismissal earlier this year. The Portuguese manager was let go in January following a 14-month tenure at Old Trafford, with their decision triggered by a 1-1 draw against Leeds. Amorim's termination occurred prior to the end of his two-and-a-half-year contract, resulting in United having to compensate him £8.5 million for breaching their agreement.

Although this represents a substantial financial burden for the Red Devils, it is only slightly more than what Erik ten Hag was paid upon his departure in 2024, after the club opted to extend his contract by one year following United's FA Cup victory. Initially, United recorded the severance payment as an exceptional item costing £16.7 million in the third quarter results published in May, but this has since been significantly reduced, as Amorim has since taken on the role at AC Milan. His move to AC Milan has mitigated the financial impact of his dismissal on Manchester United.
