Reijnders says Man City role, Saudi offer prompted surprise summer switch

Netherlands midfielder Tijjani Reijnders disclosed that the role being assigned to him at Manchester City and a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia's Al Qadsiah prompted his sudden summer transfer. The 28-year-old had initially desired a dynamic midfielder role, switching between attack and defense, but found himself increasingly playing as an attacking midfielder.

Reijnders expressed his dissatisfaction with the evolving position, stating that he began contemplating a change during the pre-season at Manchester City. He shared that he now seeks a different experience and had been approached by Al Qadsiah, who offered him a substantial financial package. The Dutch national team player found support in discussions with Al Qadsiah's coach, Brendan Rodgers, who convinced him of the potential for three or four enjoyable years in Saudi Arabia before a possible return to Europe.

Reijnders emphasized the league's quality, asserting that it surpasses the Eredivisie (Dutch league) in terms of talent. He also highlighted the practical benefits, stating that the financial security would ensure a comfortable future for his family, including his grandchildren.
