Peripheral giant Razer has resurrected a long-standing line of speakers with the launch of the Mako and Mako X models. Unlike previous iterations, these new speakers maintain the original round shape but differ in how they operate. The original Mako featured downward-firing speakers, while the new versions are front-firing with a slight upward tilt.
The Mako and Mako X boast custom-tuned 2.75-inch full-range drivers capable of delivering 30W RMS and 45W peak output, with a frequency response range of 60Hz. The base model includes a 3.5-inch subwoofer, outputting 40W RMS and 60W peak, with a lower frequency floor of 45Hz.
One significant difference between the two models lies in their Chroma RGB lighting. The base Mako projects it backward, causing it to bounce off walls, while the X model utilizes it as an underglow. Both models support virtual 7.1 surround sound. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.3, USB-C, and a 3.5mm audio jack. However, unlike traditional speakers, neither model comes with a conventional power adapter. Instead, USB-C connectivity to a PC or a dedicated charger rated at 45W or higher is required.
Currently, neither the Razer Mako nor Mako X are available for purchase. However, the X variant will be available sooner, starting on October 6, for a price of RM449. The base model will be released in December, with no price announced yet.
