Ramaphosa lauds decision to establish International Panel on Equity

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa praised the establishment of the International Panel on Equity, calling it a consequential step that places inequality at the forefront of global discussions. During a virtual address at a high-level event on the International Panel, Ramaphosa called on panel members to stay united as they work towards a shared goal.

World leaders are in attendance at the United Nations General Assembly, currently taking place in the United States. President Ramaphosa emphasized that Nelson Mandela's wisdom reminds us that until poverty, injustice, and inequality are eradicated globally, none of us can be truly free or at peace. He urged today to be a day of action, highlighting the formidable task of building a new multilateral front and strengthening the global coalition against inequality.

The decision to create the panel represents one of the most significant outcomes of South Africa's G20 presidency last year, building upon the Brazilian G20 presidency that also prioritized inequality on the global stage.
