Raila’s brother hits back at Uhuru over 2022 election claim

Nairobi, Kenya – The family of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has responded to retired President Uhuru Kenyatta's renewed claim that Raila won the 2022 presidential election. Raila's brother, Omondi Oginga, urged Uhuru to cease discussing the disputed election, which occurred over four years prior to his remarks. "We are not happy with the past events and there's no need for him to talk about the results that happened some years back," Omondi stated.

The family and supporters were unhappy with Uhuru's latest claims, which came more than four years after the 2022 election. Omondi questioned why Uhuru was bringing up the election now, when he was in power during the disputed contest and had the authority to influence outcomes. "He was in power, he had all the authority and he didn't use it well," Omondi said.

The family also appealed to Uhuru to allow them to mourn Raila, who passed away in October 2025. Uhuru reignited the debate on Tuesday, vowing his continued belief that Raila had won the 2022 election and his party's efforts to support his presidential bid. The election result was officially declared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, with Uhuru Kenyatta receiving 7,176,141 votes (50.49 percent) and Raila Odinga garnering 6,942,930 votes (48.85 percent). Raila challenged the result in court, but the Supreme Court unanimously confirmed Ruto's victory.
