QU receives Academic AI and Research Excellence Award

Qatar University (QU) has been awarded the Academic AI and Research Excellence Award at the Google Cloud Summit 2026 for their efforts in promoting artificial intelligence across various sectors. Dr. Omar Al Ansari, QU's president, stated that this recognition highlights the University's dedication to applying AI advancements to academic, research, and institutional operations.

QU's partnership with Google Cloud has significantly enhanced the University's capabilities. This collaboration has enabled the adoption of Gemini Enterprise, providing faculty, staff, and students with enterprise-grade generative AI tools for academic and administrative tasks, research, and productivity. Additionally, the Spark AI Research Hub offers researchers advanced computing infrastructure and AI capabilities for high-impact research in areas such as energy, sustainable agriculture, and healthcare.

It also focuses on developing AI technologies in Arabic, including natural language processing, information retrieval, and machine learning.

Ghassan Kosta, Regional General Manager for Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, and Iraq at Google Cloud, praised QU for bridging enterprise productivity with specialized research excellence.
