Qatar embassy brings communities together at Ottawa fall gathering

The Embassy of Qatar in Ottawa hosted a community gathering at Leamy Lake Park in Gatineau, Quebec, as part of the 2026 Year of Culture partnership with Canada. Over 100 attendees joined the event to celebrate the growing friendship between the two nations through sports, food, and cultural exchange. The Qatar ambassador to Canada, Tariq Ali Faraj al-Ansari, emphasized the importance of the gathering in promoting mutual understanding and lasting relations between the people of Qatar and Canada.

The event featured basketball, volleyball, and tug-of-war, allowing guests of all ages to connect and form new friendships. The annual Year of Culture program brings communities, institutions, and creative practitioners together through various activities in partner countries, fostering cultural, educational, sporting, and community-led exchanges.

Previous initiatives included media events, fashion shows, artistic collaborations, and culinary showcases. Canada's sports culture was also highlighted through street curling, ice hockey, and other winter activities. These exchanges have enabled Qatari and Canadian individuals to experience each other's cultures and build lasting relationships, promoting peaceful and inclusive societies.
