Prince Harry warns AI chatbots can be more dangerous than social media for the young

Prince Harry cautioned at the Clinton Global Initiative on Wednesday that artificial intelligence chatbots designed for companionship may pose a greater risk to young individuals than social media. He stated that AI is more persuasive, intimate, and potent, and has the capability to infiltrate personal relationships, seeking not just attention but attachment.

In 2024, Harry had previously cautioned about the adverse effects of social media on the mental health and well-being of youth. Harry and his wife, Meghan, established The Parents Network through their Archewell Foundation, but Harry acknowledged that technological advancements have made the task of protecting families and young individuals more challenging.

He emphasized that while there have been signs of institutions recognizing the potential harm caused by AI, punitive measures such as bans, settlements, and payouts are insufficient solutions.
