Police arrest six over Indian hemp possession, alleged murder

The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended four suspected armed robbers in a series of intelligence-led operations across the state. These arrests took place in Bauchi metropolis, Darazo, and Yana. During the raids, the police recovered three knives, including the one used in a robbery, a stolen Tecno Pop 9 phone, and 96 counterfeit $100 notes.

In Bauchi metropolis, a 19-year-old resident named Jahun reported being attacked by three men on Tuesday evening. The suspects demanded his phone and used a knife to threaten him. The suspects were found in a room at Unguwar Ardo, and they were promptly arrested. Another 18-year-old suspect was later found at his residence, and the stolen phone was recovered.

In Darazo, a 25-year-old man named Adamu Umar was apprehended for attempting to exchange counterfeit US dollars. During the operation, 67 counterfeit US dollar notes, a machete, and a Tecno keypad phone were seized. Umar had attacked and injured a police officer with the machete during the arrest, and he later tried to flee while being taken to the police station on a motorcycle, injuring himself and two other officers.

In Yana, Shira Local Government Area, two men were arrested for alleged criminal conspiracy, cheating, and possession of counterfeit currency. A 42-year-old victim from Lagos State reported that Tanimu Garba and Habibu Ahmed invited him for a foreign exchange transaction. The suspects took N4.449m from the victim and gave him counterfeit $100 notes before fleeing.

Police recovered 96 counterfeit $100 notes from Garba's residence. The cases have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for investigation and prosecution. The Bauchi Police advise residents to be cautious of fraudulent foreign exchange transactions and use only licensed and verifiable channels.
