Penang Hospital carries out third kidney retrieval this year

George Town, Penang Hospital has carried out its third kidney retrieval this year, according to the state Health Department and the hospital itself. The deceased donor was a woman who was the primary financial supporter for her family. She tragically passed away following a ruptured intracranial aneurysm. Her decision to become an organ donor was honored by her mother.

The successful kidney retrieval required the coordinated efforts of multiple hospital departments, including urology, neurosurgery, anaesthesiology, operating theatre, dietetics and catering, pathology, radiology, and forensic services. The Transport Unit, Organ Procurement Unit, and National Transplant Centre also played a crucial role in the procedure.

In a show of support for organ donors and their families, the hospital illuminated its building in green during the month of August.
