Pakistan stands 'shoulder to shoulder' with Saudi Arabia in safeguarding its sovereignty, security: PM Shehbaz

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed Pakistan's unwavering support for Saudi Arabia's sovereignty and security on the country's National Day. On September 23, the date that marks the unification of Saudi Arabia in 1932, the premier congratulated the Gulf state on its "remarkable journey of progress and transformation". He condemned recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, particularly an attempted drone strike on Makkah, stating that such threats to the sanctity of Islam's holiest sites deeply wounds the sentiments of Muslims worldwide.

Shehbaz emphasized that Pakistan stands "unwaveringly, shoulder to shoulder, with the kingdom in safeguarding its sovereignty, security and the sanctity of Islam's holiest sites". He highlighted that the brotherhood between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia is growing into a stronger strategic partnership, underpinned by shared commitments to peace, security, and the unity of the Muslim Ummah.

The Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement and the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement, both signed recently, pledge that any attack on either nation would be considered an act of aggression against both. The premier concluded by expressing his hope that the bond between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia continues to strengthen.
