The International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission, spearheaded by Iva Petrova, has embarked on discussions with Pakistani officials to initiate the review process for the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF). Iva Petrova, the IMF Resident Representative to Pakistan, confirmed this development to Business Recorder.
The news follows the arrival of an IMF staff mission in Pakistan, as previously reported by Business Recorder. Pakistan's ongoing IMF programs comprise an Extended Arrangement under the EFF and an RSF. The EFF, approved by the IMF's Executive Board in late September 2024, is a 37-month bailout program valued at approximately $7 billion (SDR 5,320 million).
In October 2024, Pakistan formally sought an arrangement under the RSF. A staff-level agreement for a 28-month arrangement under the RSF, totaling around $1.3 billion, was reached on March 25, 2025, coinciding with the first EFF review. Once the IMF's staff and Pakistani authorities reach a staff-level agreement on the fourth review under the EFF and the third review under the RSF, it will require the Executive Board's approval.
Upon approval, Pakistan will be eligible for roughly $1 billion under the EFF and $200 million under the RSF. To date, Pakistan has received $4.8 billion under the two arrangements.
