Owners mourn spoiled food after firmware update bricks Samsung smart fridges

Samsung has halted the distribution of a SmartThings update for its smart refrigerators in South Korea following reports of major issues. Many users on Samsung's Korea Community forum have complained that their fridges stopped functioning altogether, leading to wastage of food. Other problems include the automatic door-opening feature not working and the refrigerator's interior lights not turning on.

A Samsung representative stated that an error occurred during the testing phase of the software update, causing abnormal power and screen symptoms in some customers' fridges. The company is currently investigating the matter and has taken emergency measures at its service centers. It is believed that the update was unintentionally pushed out to users due to a "system error."

Samsung has confirmed that it has ceased distributing the update and has advised affected customers to get in touch with their service center. Some users have reported that Samsung technicians are replacing the motherboard in these faulty fridges. However, many customers are demanding compensation for the spoiled food. This issue is particularly unfortunate as it occurs during South Korea's Chuseok holiday.
