‘One Woman, One Bra’ Selected as Kenya’s Official Entry for 99th Academy Awards

Kenya has crowned "One Woman, One Bra," a film centered on the Maasai community, as the country's official entry for the 99th Academy Awards. The Kenya Oscars Selection Committee made the announcement after evaluating three submissions deemed eligible for representing the nation at the esteemed international film awards. The committee announced the film met the necessary technical criteria, such as over 50% of its content being in a local language.

They were searching for a film that combined engaging storytelling, originality, and an authentic depiction of the Kenyan experience. After deliberations, "One Woman, One Bra" was chosen for its portrayal of Maasai life and strong artistic and technical attributes. The committee was impressed by the film's originality, authentic performances, pacing, and use of the Kenyan landscape, including the incorporation of cow and cowbell sounds for an immersive experience.

They also appreciated the film's costumes that reflect Maasai cultural heritage and the scenes that significantly advance the story. Chairperson Eddah Kiruhi expressed excitement about presenting "One Woman, One Bra" to the Academy, praising the film's authenticity, originality, captivating visuals and sounds, and meaningful narrative.

She added that the committee believes the film has the potential to resonate with Academy voters and international audiences. The committee also acknowledged the producers for their submissions, encouraging more Kenyan filmmakers to submit their work in future selections, noting Kenya's diverse stories that can compete on the global stage.
