NPP demands immediate removal of institutional heads over drug trafficking cases

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is calling for the immediate dismissal of heads of key state institutions overseeing port operations, maritime security, narcotics control, intelligence and customs, in response to the discovery of nearly 3.9 tonnes of suspected cocaine allegedly linked to Ghana. NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, known as Nana B, made the demand during an interview on Adom FM Dwaso Nsem, expressing concern over a string of major narcotics cases involving the nation.

Nana B cited a video where Minister of Transport and Aviation Muntaka suggested that French authorities do not trust Ghanaian authorities, which he deemed as a reason for the Minister's removal. This demand comes after French customs seized nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine concealed in a container carrying plastic waste at the Port of Dunkirk, raising questions about the drug's passage through Ghana's port and security systems undetected.

Nana B specifically accused top officials, including the Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority, the Director General of the Ghana Maritime Authority, the CEO of Ghana Shippers Authority, the Director General of the Narcotics Control Commission and its deputies, the National Security Coordinator, the Director General of the National Intelligence Bureau, the Managing Director of the Ghana Airport Company Limited, the Commissioner General of the Customs Division, and the CID boss of being negligent or incompetent.

He emphasized the serious nature of the situation, as the drugs were only intercepted upon leaving Ghana, and called for drastic measures, including the immediate sacking of officials along the chain of command. The Minority in Parliament has also advocated for a parliamentary inquiry into the drug-related cases.
