Northwestern’s high flying start may come crashing down in Bloomington

Northwestern's stellar start may not last long as they face Indiana in the near future. The Wildcats opened the season with a 41-7 victory over Colorado, with standout performances from Joseph Himon II, Aidan Chiles, and a dominant defense that forced four turnovers. However, they will find it challenging to replicate that level of success against No. 5 Indiana.

Indiana, led by senior quarterback Josh Hoover and a formidable receiving duo of Charlie Becker, Turbo Richard, and Lee Beebe Jr., has also had an outstanding season. The Hoosiers have a dominant offense and a top-tier defense that ranks No. 6 overall and allows only one touchdown. Indiana's strong run defense, which allows fewer yards per carry than Northwestern, and their potent passing game, which ranks second in the nation, make them a formidable opponent.

Northwestern's defense struggled against Colorado, allowing an average of 5.5 yards per carry. Indiana's run offense, however, is expected to exploit this weakness. Meanwhile, Northwestern's pass defense has not faced significant competition, and Indiana's passing game is expected to overpower it. Indiana's receivers, including Becker, are known for their ability to make contested catches.

For Northwestern to have any chance against Indiana, they must control possessions and force turnovers. This means limiting Indiana's scoring opportunities and disrupting their offense by disguising coverages and bringing pressure. If successful, Northwestern can mount a comeback, but given the current disparities in talent and resources, it will be an uphill battle.
