Newsweek’s Polish edition: CIA warned Poland that Russia could damage undersea cables between Europe and the U.S.

The CIA has warned Poland of potential Russian hybrid threats, including a possible provocation targeting the banking system, according to Newsweek's Polish edition. The threat may involve undersea telecommunications infrastructure, which is crucial for international financial systems, said Mariusz Gierszewski, a Newsweek journalist.

Gierszewski noted that the Russians have detailed maps of all cables used by the international banking system, running between Europe and America. These include transatlantic links and cables running along the Baltic seabed between Scandinavia, Poland, and the U.K. The U.S. has advised Poland to prepare its banking system for such threats, Gierszewski added, explaining that $10 trillion in interbank transactions pass through these cables daily.
