New College Swimming League dives into inaugural season with eye on wider audience

The College Swimming League kicks off its first-ever season on September 23 in Westmont, Illinois, outside Chicago. With an aim to elevate the prominence of college swimming, a traditionally underrepresented sport in U.S. college athletics, the league brings together twelve teams from the SEC, ACC, and Big Ten conferences. The inaugural match will see Indiana, Louisville, Michigan, and Ohio State compete at FMC Natatorium.

Spanning eight events through November 6, the championship will be held in Indianapolis. Utilizing a combined men's and women's team format, featuring spectator-friendly formats like Skins and a jackpot scoring rule, the league hopes to create a compelling product for both viewers and broadcast partners. Organizers anticipate increased exposure for athletes, potentially enabling them to secure name, image, and likeness (NIL) deals.

The league has garnered funding from ISL founder Konstantin Grigorishin and promises nearly $1 million in travel costs, along with a $100,000 prize purse, with a focus on supporting athletic programs rather than individual swimmers.
