NEMA urges caution as flooding persists in Anambra

Anambra State First Lady, Dr Nonye Soludo, has called on residents to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions against ongoing flooding in the region. In a statement released on Wednesday, the First Lady expressed worry over the escalating flood situation and its potential impact on families, particularly those living in flood-prone areas.

She advised everyone to stay alert, heed weather and flood warnings, avoid crossing flooded roads and waterways, and relocate to safer areas when their homes or surroundings become unsafe. The statement emphasized the importance of keeping surroundings clean and not disposing of waste in drainage channels, as blocked waterways can exacerbate flooding and pose severe risks to lives and property.

She urged parents and guardians to keep children away from floodwaters, drainage channels, streams, and other dangerous areas during heavy rainfall. Soludo stressed the need for enhanced community awareness, collective responsibility, and early action to minimize the risks associated with flooding. She also encouraged residents to promptly report emergencies and situations requiring urgent intervention to the appropriate authorities and urged communities to assist one another by responding swiftly whenever floodwaters begin to rise.

The statement assured that the state government would continue to take all necessary measures to mitigate the impact of the natural disaster on affected families and communities.
