Nandini milk prices to increase? Karnataka CM seeks data from other states

Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar has requested information on milk pricing from other states after unions in the state demanded a Rs 8 to Rs 10 per litre increase in the price of Nandini milk. The demand came during a meeting with the federation where Shivakumar's brother, D K Suresh, a milk union president, explained that the cost of producing milk in the past decade had risen due to increased expenses for animal feed, fodder, and medication.

Suresh highlighted that in the current drought situation, agricultural income had fallen significantly due to crop failure, leaving dairy farmers with the challenge of reduced fodder availability. He also noted that procurement prices for milk in Karnataka were lower compared to neighboring states like Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu.

The Karnataka government had last raised milk prices by Rs 4 per litre in April 2025, transferring the entire amount to milk producers. Since then, Nandini milk (toned milk) costs Rs 46 per litre, homogenized toned milk Rs 47, and other products like cow milk, special milk, and curd have seen corresponding price adjustments.
