N. Korea's vice defense minister departs for Vietnam amid deepening ties

North Korean Vice Defense Minister Ryo Chol-ung has journeyed to Vietnam, according to state news agencies, as the two countries strengthen their relations. Ryo led a delegation that left Pyongyang the day before, accompanied by defense ministry officials, Vietnam's ambassador to North Korea, and the embassy's defense attache. The report did not disclose the delegation's schedule or the reason for the visit.

The move coincides with Pyongyang and Hanoi's efforts to boost bilateral ties. Earlier this month, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un affirmed his dedication to enhancing mutual relations in a letter to President To Lam, commemorating Vietnam's 81st founding anniversary. The two nations have gradually grown closer since the October summit.

President To Lam's visit to North Korea marked the first by a top Vietnamese leader in 18 years. In May, Vietnamese Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung met with his North Korean counterpart, Choe Son-hui, for talks. The two countries' security ministers also held discussions in Pyongyang the following month.
