Mumbai Ganeshotsav 2026: Special Girgaon Chowpatty Pavilion To Give Foreign Tourists Front-Row View Of Visarjan

Mumbai, September 23, 2026 - The Maharashtra Tourism Department has constructed a dedicated viewing pavilion at the historic Girgaon Chowpatty, with the aim of enabling foreign tourists to witness the grand Ganesh Visarjan ceremony on Anant Chaturdashi. This initiative seeks to provide international visitors with an unprecedented immersive experience of Maharashtra’s deep-rooted traditions, allowing them to observe the picturesque immersion processions up close while gaining a profound comprehension of the event’s historical and spiritual importance.

The pavilion, situated right along the scenic shores of Girgaon Chowpatty – the bustling epicentre of Mumbai’s immersion processions, will accommodate visitors as the iconic idols embark on their journey into the Arabian Sea. Guests will be able to partake in the traditional processions, partake in the enchanting aarti, and revel in the vibrant atmosphere punctuated by the rhythmic beats of dhol-tasha pathaks, the resplendent Maharashtrian attire, and the powerful chants of Ganpati Bappa Morya.

The Maharashtra Tourism Department’s creation of this special pavilion aims to provide an organized, secure, and engaging environment for foreign tourists to immerse themselves in the awe-inspiring spectacle without detracting from the authentic energy of the public event. The state’s Tourism Minister, Shambhuraj Desai, emphasized the role of community festivals in fostering global outreach, stating that Maharashtra’s rich cultural heritage is a key asset for the state’s tourism sector.

The department is actively working to introduce international tourists to the diverse cultural traditions and festivals of Maharashtra, with Ganeshotsav serving as a prime example of a people-centric festival that showcases the state’s unique cultural identity. Additional Chief Secretary for Tourism, Sanjay Khandare, highlighted the objective of the pavilion, which is to offer foreign tourists the opportunity to experience Maharashtra’s cultural traditions firsthand.

He explained that through the pavilion, visitors will gain insight into the historical, cultural, and spiritual significance of Ganeshotsav, thereby effectively promoting the state’s cultural heritage to audiences worldwide. Similarly, Tourism Director Vikas Pansare emphasized the significance of the Ganesh Visarjan ceremony at Girgaon Chowpatty, stating that the pavilion will enable foreign tourists to learn about the various facets of Ganeshotsav and experience the Visarjan ceremony firsthand.

This innovative initiative will not only showcase Maharashtra’s cultural traditions, warm hospitality, and diverse opportunities for cultural tourism but also contribute to establishing Mumbai as a premier destination for festive tourism in India, alongside other renowned events such as Kerala’s Thrissur Pooram and Bengal’s Durga Puja.
