Milei presses Malvinas claim, slams 'useless' United Nations 'parasites' in speech

President Javier Milei harshly criticized the United Nations during a speech at the United Nations General Assembly, calling it a "useless organisation" that exists solely to benefit a "caste of fatally arrogant parasites disguised as well-meaning bureaucrats." The Argentine leader alleged that the UN had contributed to a "genocide" in its response to the coronavirus pandemic.

Focusing on Argentina's claim over the Malvinas Islands, Milei referred to it as a "national cause" for his country. He urged the United Kingdom to resume negotiations over the Falkland Islands and seek a peaceful resolution to the long-standing dispute between the nations. Milei lambasted the UN for its lack of action on the Malvinas, South Georgia, the South Sandwich Islands, and surrounding maritime areas, stating that the organization's inability to enforce its own principles has eroded its authority.

Milei also criticized the UK’s selective interpretation of the principle of self-determination, highlighting the inconsistency in their stance between its own territory and the disputed islands.
