Metro 9 Kashigaon Accident: Wooden Ply Falls From Under-Construction Bridge, Injures 23-Year-Old; Storekeeper Booked

A 23-year-old man was injured when a heavy wooden plank fell from an under-construction Metro 9 bridge in Kashigaon on Sunday afternoon. The incident occurred near the second phase of Metro 9 construction between Kashigaon and Mira-Bhayandar, which is being undertaken by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).

The victim, Shadab Mansuri, was standing below the bridge when the old piece of construction material fell and struck him, resulting in injuries that required hospital treatment. The 23-year-old is currently stable.

Police registered a case against the Metro 9 project storekeeper, Kamruddin, for alleged negligence. According to Rajendra Kamble, a senior inspector of Kashimira police station, the wooden plank had been used during construction and had become outdated. Instead of disposing of it properly, Kamruddin allegedly left it in the open, leading to the unfortunate event. The police have also written to MMRDA to seek clarifications regarding the accident.

This incident has reignited discussions about the safety protocols in place during Metro 9 construction, particularly in zones where ongoing work is conducted in close proximity to roads and public areas.
