Meta takes action against 3.7 million scam-linked 'shell pages' and accounts in Singapore police partnership

Meta has taken action against over 3.7 million scam-related accounts, pages, and content this year, according to the company. This figure is based on information provided by the Singapore police, with which Meta has been collaborating to identify and dismantle entire networks of scammers. The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has been assisting Meta's investigators in this effort through an information-sharing partnership established over the past two years.

During the first half of the year, from January to June, Meta removed more than 113,000 entities and pages associated with fraud and scams on Facebook and Instagram, according to executives at a media briefing. In June, Meta reported disrupting over 33,600 entities and pages linked to scammers attempting to exploit the upcoming school holidays, when families are actively seeking travel deals online.

July saw Meta taking action against more than 3.6 million entities and pages, the vast majority of which were shell pages – inactive accounts that could still be acquired by scammers for future fraudulent activities. The company did not provide any comparative figures for the remaining months.
