Man United finances: Record revenues but another big loss as club counts cost of Amorim firing

Manchester United announced their seventh consecutive annual loss on Wednesday, with costs linked to player acquisitions and the recent dismissal of former head coach Ruben Amorim driving the club deeper into financial difficulty. Despite significant cost-cutting measures and price increases spearheaded by minority shareholder and football operations head Jim Ratcliffe, the English champions reported a £43 million ($57.1 million) net loss for the year ending June 30, 2026.

This represents a sharp increase from a £33 million loss the previous year, primarily due to an £8.2 million exceptional charge related to Amorim's departure and restructuring efforts.

The club's share price, buoyed by a near 24% gain this year, fell 3% in U.S. premarket trading following the announcement. Manchester United, renowned as the 20-times English champions, has accumulated losses of nearly £190 million since fiscal 2024. The English Premier League's Profitability and Sustainability Rules cap club losses at £105 million over three years, though deductions are permitted for infrastructure, academy, charity, and women's soccer investments.

CEO Omar Berrada affirmed the club's commitment to a disciplined approach to maintain financial sustainability. Despite finishing third in the Premier League last season under Michael Carrick's management, securing a spot in the Champions League, United anticipates record revenue of between £740 million and £760 million for fiscal 2027.

This represents a substantial increase from £677.6 million in fiscal 2026. Currently sitting 12th in the league table with just one win from their first five games, United continues to strive to replicate the success achieved under previous manager Alex Ferguson, who departed in 2013 after securing 13 Premier League titles.
