Man convicted of second-degree murder in Surrey, B.C., death in 2023

A 45-year-old man from Surrey, B.C., has been found guilty of second-degree murder for the death of another man in August 2023, according to Surrey police. The conviction, which resulted in a B.C. Supreme Court verdict in New Westminster, carries an automatic life sentence. The victim's identity has not been disclosed, but police discovered his body at a local residence on August 27, 2023.

Paul John Martin, the accused, was apprehended at the scene and has remained in police custody since his arrest. His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday to determine his sentencing and parole eligibility.
