Major Power Breakdown Disrupts Water Supply in Karachi

A major power failure at the Pipri Pumping Station has temporarily halted water distribution to numerous districts in Karachi, as reported by a spokesperson for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC). The KW&SC spokesperson explained that the suspension in water supply operations occurred after electricity supply to the pumping station was abruptly cut off due to a K-Electric power disruption.

KW&SC has reassured that water will be restored to the affected regions as soon as power is reinstated at the pumping station.

This latest disruption follows a prolonged power outage impacting the Dhabeji Pumping Station. KW&SC mentioned that power was eventually restored to parts of the Dhabeji facility following a 17-hour power blackout. On the previous week, K-Electric succeeded in reestablishing electricity to the Third Phase, Fourth Phase, and one feeder of the K-III Pump House, although another feeder of the K-III Pump House remained without power. K-Electric has been working to restore the remaining feeder.

Upon the restoration of electricity supply, eight out of the ten affected pumps were brought back into operation, and water supply was restored to the impacted areas. KW&SC disclosed that the power breakdown at Dhabeji resulted in a substantial water shortfall of 198 million gallons for Karachi.
