Madhya Pradesh Police To Trace Absconding Suspects’ Property Through Bank, Tax And Revenue Records

Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh: The state Police Headquarters (PHQ) has issued guidelines for police units to uncover the moveable and immovable properties of individuals wanted by authorities. These directives were released under provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The PHQ instructed commissioners of police and superintendents of police to gather information regarding the suspect’s immovable assets from the revenue department, as well as details about the suspect’s residence and property locations from gram panchayat secretaries, urban local bodies, and sub-registrar offices.

Police are also tasked with identifying moveable assets such as shares, debentures, and bonds held in the suspect’s name by gathering bank account information, deposited funds, PAN card data, and other personal specifics. Police will obtain income tax return information from the income tax department and vehicle registration details from the transport department.

The PHQ stated that other sources may also be utilized to collect data on the suspect’s assets. Police often faced difficulty in obtaining necessary information from revenue department, income tax department, or other relevant agencies when dealing with absconding suspects. However, under the relevant provisions of the BNSS, these departments are now mandated to cooperate.

The information obtained from these departments will be certified, allowing the police to present a thorough account of the absconding suspect’s assets before the court. Essentially, police will now identify and attach the assets of absconding suspects in a more organized manner.
