Macron At UN: Ahead Of Winter, Kyiv Needs More Interceptor Missiles

French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized during the UN General Assembly's 81st session that Ukraine requires additional interceptor missiles ahead of winter. Ukraine has been enduring a brutal five-year conflict with Russia, which has occupied its territory and targeted its civilians and energy infrastructure. Macron reiterated France's unwavering support for Ukraine's pursuit of peace, security, and a prosperous future.

The French leader also advocated for a "double moratorium" on strikes against energy and civilian infrastructure, as well as hostilities in the Black Sea, which would facilitate the resumption of grain supplies. This measure would address the significant food security challenges faced by many developing countries. Macron also called for the reintroduction of the Coalition of the Willing, a group of states committed to promoting peace and stability in Europe.

Speaking about the current global situation, Macron highlighted the resurgence of imperialism, arrogance, and the unchecked use of force by certain states that disregard international rules. He urged nations not to succumb to fatalism and the notion that strength inherently prevails. Instead, he emphasized the importance of learning from the lessons of the 20th century and supporting international accountability mechanisms, such as the work of the International Court of Justice.

Macron further advocated for the reform of the UN Security Council to include additional states and regions, particularly from Africa. He supported the Franco-Mexican initiative to limit the use of the veto power in cases of mass atrocities, which has already garnered support from 128 countries. The French president warned that the world is becoming increasingly divided, with the rhetoric of defeat paving the way for empires that abuse power, threaten sovereignty, and monopolize resources.

He stressed that France will bolster Ukraine's air defense by supplying radars and interceptor missiles, acknowledging that the war in Ukraine has far-reaching implications for global adherence to international law.
