Libya’s al-Menfi praises Palestinian 'steadfastness' in the face of 'oppression'

Libya's Mohamed al-Menfi, head of the Tripoli-based Presidential Council, commended the Palestinian people's unwavering commitment in the face of ongoing oppression during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. Speaking at UN headquarters in New York, al-Menfi highlighted that the assembly is taking place amid a "profound transformation" in global power dynamics and the ethics surrounding its use.

He emphasized that a significant challenge for the international community is to establish an international order wherein the rule of law is granted equally to all, rather than being a privilege granted to the most powerful nations. Al-Menfi expressed disappointment over the absence of the Palestinian delegation, as their members were denied entry visas by the United States.

Despite decades of occupation and repression, he noted the Palestinian people's persistent steadfastness in advocating for their right to life and self-determination. In response to the recent attack originating from Iraq that targeted Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline, al-Menfi reiterated Libya's "full solidarity" with its Arab neighbor.

He called for strong relations with Arab countries, particularly those in the region, advocating for interactions based on shared interests, mutual respect, non-interference, and respect for national sovereignty.
