JustGO toll payment system at Penang Bridge

George Town, Penang: JustGO, a digital toll payment system, has begun operation on Penang Bridge, offering motorists an alternative method for toll payments through automatic number plate recognition (ANPR). This move, approved by Penang Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari, signifies the country's ongoing transition towards a more digitalised transport and toll payment landscape.

Zairil highlighted that the implementation would facilitate a more seamless and adaptable experience for Penang residents who frequently use the bridge. Under the JustGO system, registered users can bypass specific payment lanes and simply drive through the toll plaza, as the ANPR technology identifies the vehicle's registration number and processes the toll payment automatically using the linked payment card.

The system's LaneFreedom feature permits users to utilise any available toll lane on Penang Bridge. However, at the Bandar Cassia toll plaza, JustGO is presently accessible only at specified RFID lanes, identified by a red circle. Penang Bridge tolls for JustGO registered users enjoy a 20 per cent discount. ANPR technology promises to enhance traffic flow at toll plazas, reduce dependence on physical payment methods, and contribute to Penang's goal of becoming a smart state.

Users can obtain JustGO via the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Huawei AppGallery, after registering their account and vehicle and linking a payment card. Payment notifications may be received shortly after passing through a toll plaza due to potential additional verification for ANPR transactions. Users can review their transaction records, including the time and location of each journey, through the JustGO application.

The state government urges Penang Bridge users to embrace the new payment option as part of its commitment to advancing daily mobility via digital technology.
