Jerry John Yenabi Foundation saves 99 lives with free anti-snake venom in Krachi Nchumuru District

The Jerry John Yenabi Foundation has credited its free anti-snake venom initiative with saving over 99 lives in the Krachi Nchumuru District, Oti Region, after years of snakebite-related deaths due to limited access to treatment. The district, primarily a farming area, witnesses frequent snake encounters, particularly among farmers and those traversing bush paths.

Lack of anti-snake venom and delays in treatment have been identified as major contributing factors to preventable deaths. The Foundation has now supplied anti-snake venom to health facilities across the district and ensured free access to these life-saving treatments, aiming to reduce snakebite-related fatalities. Jerry John Yenabi, CEO of the Foundation, highlighted that the initiative is a direct response to the urgent need to protect lives in farming communities where snakebites pose a persistent threat.

He stressed that swift medical intervention after a suspected snakebite is crucial to improving outcomes and preventing complications. A nurse at St. Luke Catholic Hospital, John Jnr, echoed the Foundation's call for urgency, advising residents not to delay seeking medical care or rely on unverified home remedies. The Foundation's intervention is being viewed as a practical solution to a longstanding health risk in rural farming areas, with local health workers optimistic about the potential for further reduction in fatalities and safeguarding livelihoods in Krachi Nchumuru.
