Iowa's Kenneth Merrieweather is excited to play back home in Michigan

Iowa defensive lineman Kenneth Merrieweather hails from Detroit but has long been a fan of Michigan football. Growing up, he watched Michigan and Michigan State games together, including the storied rivalry matchups at the Big House in Ann Arbor. Now playing for the No. 17 Iowa Hawkeyes (3-0), Merrieweather has the chance to face his hometown rivals at Michigan Stadium, home to more than 100,000 fans.

The defensive lineman, a fourth-year player, is thrilled at the prospect of returning to his roots and playing in front of his family. Kickoff against the No. 18 Wolverines is set for 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, September 26. Merrieweather knows that the game presents a unique challenge, not only for the players on the field but also for the raucous atmosphere created by the Michigan fans.

Despite the pressure, he and his teammates are looking forward to the opportunity to compete against a talented opponent. Merrieweather has started all three games for Iowa, recording three tackles against Iowa State. Playing back home means a great deal to him, as roughly 20 to 30 family members will be attending the game. He expressed his excitement at the chance to play in the Big House and compete against his hometown rivals.
