Home Team uses NVIDIA’s latest AI chips to supercharge public safety robots

Singapore's Home Team, the nation's public safety agency, is set to enhance its capabilities with the deployment of NVIDIA's newest AI chips. The Home Team Science and Technology Agency (HTX) is the first entity in Singapore to utilize the GB300 chip, which is significantly faster than its predecessor, the GB200. This new technology allows HTX to train more sophisticated AI systems, particularly its NGINE AI infrastructure, which can process and analyze text, video, and audio data simultaneously.

HTX's chief AI officer, Ang Chee Wee, revealed that the GB300 chips will enable the training of larger multimodal models and embodied AI models, facilitating inference at a large scale. These AI advancements will help Home Team officers tackle complex safety and security challenges more efficiently. While acknowledging the potential for AI to also be exploited by malicious actors, Ang emphasized that the objective is not to replace human officers but to automate mundane, hazardous, and unpleasant tasks, such as managing hazardous materials and firefighting.

The Home Team has already integrated AI into various operations, including facial recognition for immigration and drafting police reports. The adoption of AI has reportedly saved the agency approximately a million man-hours each year, with this figure anticipated to increase in 2027. HTX plans to establish the Home Team Humanoid Robotics Centre (H2RC) in late September, investing $100 million in the development of robots designed for public safety.

Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information, Tan Kiat How, highlighted the significance of embodied AI for Singapore due to its limited land, labor, and energy resources, as well as its aging workforce. Tan expressed optimism about the potential of generative AI to transform the interaction between humans and technology, as well as between intelligence and the physical world.

Meanwhile, Singapore's tech giant Sea also announced plans to incorporate NVIDIA's next-generation AI computing architecture, known as Vera Rubin, into its autonomous AI agents. This move aims to streamline operations on Sea's gaming platform Garena, digital payment service Monee, and e-commerce system Shopee.
