HJ Shipbuilding wins four 10,100‑TEU container ship order in Korea

HJ Shipbuilding & Construction has secured a significant contract to build four container ships worth 678.9 billion won for a shipping company in Oceania, according to the Financial Supervisory Service's electronic disclosure system. The four 10,100-TEU class container ships will be delivered to the shipowner in April 2029, representing 33.9% of last year's sales.

This order brings the company's total number of 10,000-TEU class container ships ordered this year to eight. HJ Shipbuilding & Construction developed a proprietary 10,000-TEU model to match the specifications of the Yeongdo Shipyard in Busan, focusing on reducing fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions through high-efficiency propulsion and hull-form design technologies.

The ships also have enhanced capacity for reefer containers and feature a desulfurization system, an SOx scrubber, and are "methanol-ready" to respond to stricter regulations by the International Maritime Organization. CEO Yu Sang-cheol stated that the company's experience and technological strength in the medium- to large-size container ship market has laid the groundwork for building 10,000-TEU class container ships at the Yeongdo Shipyard, and they will continue to prioritize profitability and eco-friendliness in their shipbuilding strategy.
