Heritage Day weather: Partly cloudy and warm with isolated rain

Heritage Day is expected to bring partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures across South Africa, with isolated showers and thunderstorms possible in some central and eastern regions. The South African Weather Service (Saws) has issued a weather forecast for September 24, 2026, detailing conditions by province.

In Gauteng, residents can anticipate partly cloudy skies and high UVB sunburn index, requiring precautions against prolonged sun exposure. Mpumalanga may experience morning fog patches in southern areas, but will otherwise see partly cloudy and warm weather in the Lowveld, with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon.

Limpopo will be partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, particularly in the south and central regions. North West is forecasted to enjoy fine, warm weather, while Free State residents can expect a partly cloudy and warm day, with isolated showers and thunderstorms along the Lesotho border.

The Western Cape can expect cloudy conditions with morning fog patches and isolated showers and thunderstorms in extreme northeastern parts, with a "very high" UVB sunburn index. Eastern Cape's western half will be cloudy with fog and light rain, while the eastern half will be partly cloudy, cool to warm, with isolated showers and thunderstorms.

KwaZulu-Natal residents should expect morning fog patches in interior areas, with partly cloudy and warm weather that turns cloudy in the afternoon, followed by isolated showers and thunderstorms.
