Goldman appoints Simon Lyons UK investment banking co-head

Goldman Sachs has appointed Simon Lyons as co-head of its UK investment banking division, the bank confirmed on September 22. Lyons, who will join the firm as a partner, will work alongside Nimesh Khiroya in London. Previously, Lyons served as co-head of Europe at Ardea Partners and a founding partner at PJT Partners.

The move comes as Goldman Sachs increases its market share in UK and European dealmaking. According to LSEG data, the US bank leads in UK M&A so far this year with $175 billion in value from 69 deals. In the past six months, Goldman has advised on Unilever Foods' merger with McCormick, Tate & Lyle's takeover by Ingredion, and Zurich's acquisition of Beazley.

Throughout his career, Lyons has held senior positions at UBS, where he headed UK M&A. In addition to Goldman Sachs, the bank recently hired David Benichou from Morgan Stanley, Carsten Woehrn from JPMorgan, and Philippe Gallone from Moelis to bolster its European presence.
