Global South in front row of crises, but back row of decision-making: Jaishankar in US

Indonesia has made peace, United Nations reform, and the Global South a focal point of its agenda during the United Nations General Assembly's high-level week, which commenced on Tuesday in New York. President Prabowo Subianto's delegation, led by Foreign Minister Ridwan Kamil, is set to address pressing global issues such as conflicts in the Middle East, Gaza, and Ukraine, as well as climate change, inequality, economic turmoil, and the future of the UN.

The foreign ministry revealed that the week-long meetings offer Indonesia an opportunity to promote peace and conflict resolution, particularly concerning Palestine, as well as strengthen its diplomatic role as a bridge-builder. Additionally, Indonesia aims to advocate for reforms within the UN system and a more significant voice for developing nations, known collectively as the Global South, while reaffirming its dedication to multilateralism.

Foreign Minister Kamil will address the general debate on Saturday, representing Prabowo, who opted to remain in Indonesia to concentrate on domestic matters. The ministry emphasized that Kamil's involvement in the debate underscores Indonesia's commitment to active multilateral diplomacy and ensuring that the country's interests and priorities are reflected in discussions on major global issues.
