Ghana Jollof: Court adjourns Salomey Baffoe’s bail hearing

The High Court in Accra has delayed the bail hearing for Salomey Baffoe until September 24 following the prosecution's request for more time to respond to the defense's application. Ms Baffoe is accused of abetting the dissemination of false information related to social media personality Ghana Jollof. Assistant State Attorney Carl Afedzi Forson informed the court that he was not the primary lawyer on the case and had only become aware of the bail application on Friday.

He explained that the previous Monday was a public holiday, which delayed the assignment of a lawyer from the Attorney-General's Office to the case. The prosecution subsequently sought an adjournment to prepare their response, while defense counsel Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah argued that the application should be handled urgently, as it pertains to the liberty of his client.

He emphasized that bail applications involving an accused person's freedom could be heard on weekends and cautioned against unnecessary delays, as they could jeopardize the purpose of the application. The court acknowledged the significance of Ms Baffoe's liberty and instructed the prosecution to file any processes they intend to use and serve them by 9:00 a.m. This adjournment means the High Court will first review the prosecution's response before deciding the subsequent steps regarding Ms Baffoe's bail request.
