‘Gem Granites’ Veeramani POCSO case: Annamalai wants SIT to be formed to ‘uncover entire network’

Former IPS officer K. Annamalai, in a social media post on September 23, 2026, expressed his desire for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to be formed to investigate the POCSO Act case involving industrialist R. Veeramani of Gem Granites. Annamalai argued that every police officer, politician, and influential individual who had aided Veeramani's alleged crimes over the years must also face justice.

He emphasized that the investigation should not stop at Veeramani and his accomplices but should extend to all those who shielded him.

The arrest of a former Gem Granites employee in connection with the case prompted Annamalai's call for sweeping reform within the Tamil Nadu Police Department. He criticized the department, once revered as the best in the country, for becoming corrupt and incompetent under the current administration. Annamalai accused the police of prioritizing politicians' interests over the protection of victims. He stressed the need to safeguard the identities of all victims in future investigations, learning from past mistakes.
