Former NPP Bono financier resigns from party, calls for review of presidential term limits

Inter Burgamo, a former aspiring Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has resigned from the party. The decision was not influenced by any failure to secure a position, but rather stemmed from concerns about the NPP's ideology and its approach to party management. Mr. Opoku Agyapong contemplated the party's direction and evaluated it against his personal beliefs before making the decision.

Currently, he has no plans to join the National Democratic Congress (NDC) or any other political party. Instead, he is launching an initiative called "Voices of the Patriotic Citizens" to advocate for issues he believes are important to the nation. Mr. Opoku Agyapong has been associated with the NPP for years, including involvement in the party's Brong-Ahafo Region in 2011.

He also previously ran for the position of NPP Regional Chairman and for the Sunyani East Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) seat. The former NPP member has also called on President John Dramani Mahama to reconsider his stance on presidential term limits and seek a third term in office. He based this request on Mahama's perceived performance during his tenure.

The former NPP member also urged the committee reviewing Ghana's Constitution to explore whether the country's legal framework should permit a president who has performed well to seek an additional term. He suggested that the Constitution should accommodate provisions that allow for continued governance when citizens believe an administration is effectively meeting its objectives.

This call for constitutional review is intended to spark a broader national dialogue on the rules governing presidential tenure and whether the existing arrangement should remain without further consideration.
