EOCO embarrassed itself with letter on Manhyia South MP arrest attempt – Haruna Mohammed

New Patriotic Party official Haruna Mohammed has criticized the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) for embarrassing itself with a letter regarding an attempt to arrest Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah. In an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse, Mohammed stated that the letter, which reportedly claimed EOCO had made attempts to invite the MP since February 2026, instead revealed the agency's failure to adhere to the proper protocol for dealing with Members of Parliament.

He argued that had EOCO not issued the letter, it would have been preferable, as the contents of the letter itself were embarrassing to the organization. "If you read the letter very carefully, they indicated that as far back as February 2026, they had made an attempt, and they've written letters to the lawyer for his invitation," Mohammed noted.

He questioned the legality of accusing a Member of Parliament of refusing an invitation if the correct procedure had not been followed. "If you deliver a letter to my office and the letter is not brought to my attention, you have not delivered the letter," he said. Mohammed further pointed out that EOCO's statement of their intention to follow the parliamentary procedure suggested they had not initially complied with it.

"In their letter, they indicated that they will now follow the procedure. It means that they were doing something that was very unlawful," he alleged. Mohammed's remarks come after an alleged attempt to arrest the Manhyia South MP, who was appearing at the High Court in Accra as counsel for detained nurse Salomey Baffoe Awiti.
