Dreamline bus crashes into trailer on Nairobi-Mombasa Highway

NAIROBI, Kenya – A tragic accident on Wednesday morning resulted in the death of one individual and injuries to several others after a Dreamline passenger bus crashed into a trailer on the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway near Taru and Mackinnon Road. The collision caused extensive damage to the front of the bus, which was reportedly carrying passengers in its VIP section.

Images from the scene depicted the bus's front section mangled against the trailer, with trapped passengers and motorists and emergency responders rushing to assist. One man was trapped inside the bus, bleeding, and required urgent rescue efforts. Police officers utilized Land Cruisers to evacuate injured passengers to nearby healthcare facilities.

The exact circumstances leading to the accident remain unclear, and authorities are expected to investigate whether factors such as excessive speed, improper overtaking, or mechanical failure played a role. The Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, a crucial transport link connecting the capital to the coastal region, experiences heavy passenger and commercial traffic, including long-distance buses, trailers, and trucks.

This incident is part of a series of serious accidents on Kenya’s major highways in recent weeks, including a fatal collision on September 13 between an Easy Coach bus and a private vehicle on the Gilgil-Nakuru Highway, and another crash involving a Dreamline bus and a Super Metro bus near Kinungi on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway, which left several passengers injured.
