Don’t shield corrupt people — Sultan warns religious leaders

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar III, has cautioned religious leaders against providing protection to individuals accused of corruption due to familial, personal, or religious ties. At a meeting of the Nigeria Inter-Religious Council in Abuja, the Sultan emphasized that those suspected of wrongdoing should be investigated and prosecuted by law enforcement agencies, irrespective of their connections to the person.

He sternly warned against shielding alleged offenders under the guise of religious positions, stating that the EFCC chairman should pursue those responsible without regard to their affiliations. The Sultan further denounced the misuse of illicit funds for religious undertakings, asserting that such actions cannot be justified as righteous deeds before God.

He urged Christians and Muslims to foster better understanding and collaboration to address national challenges, while also encouraging religious leaders to continue praying for political leaders, emphasizing that persistent prayer may lead to positive change.
