Deep depression likely to hit Andhra-Odisha coast today, red alert in multiple districts

A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is expected to make landfall on Wednesday night, near Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The system, currently at a strength of a deep depression (winds of 52-61 kmph), is not expected to intensify further and is forecast to weaken to a depression by Thursday evening, before fading away by Saturday.

Heavy rain is expected between 55-75 kmph on Wednesday and Thursday, with fishermen advised to stay away from the sea until Friday. The heaviest rainfall was recorded in Odisha's Koraput district, with Simliguda receiving 230 mm and Jeypore 162 mm. In Andhra Pradesh, Palasa in Srikakulam district saw 141 mm of rain, the highest in the state.
